Track 2: Kidney Transplantation

The Kidney is the most commonly transplanted organ from a living donor and the deceased donor transplantation is a transplant where the donated kidney takes from a dead person.  Immunosuppressive medications that help suppress the immune system. Pediatric Renal transplantation is accepted as the treatment option for children with final stage of renal disease. HLA and ABO incompatible transplantations conduct in end-stage kidney disease individuals. Hyperacute rejection usually takes place within the first 24 hours after transplantation. Chronic acute Kidney rejection occurs months to years following transplantation.

There are currently 123,193 people waiting for lifesaving organ transplants in the U.S. Of these, 101,662 await kidney transplants. The median wait time for an individual’s first kidney transplant is 3.6 years and can vary depending on health, compatibility and availability of organs. In 2014, 17,105 kidney transplants took place in the US. Of these, 11,570 came from deceased donors and 5,535 came from living donors. Over 3,000 new patients are added to the kidney waiting list each month.12 people die each day while waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant .In 2014, 4,270 patients died while waiting for a kidney transplant. Another, 3,617 people became too sick to receive a kidney transplant.

A stem cell transplant is a medical procedure in which diseased bone marrow is replaced by highly specialized stem cells that progress into healthy bone marrow. Stem cells are versatile cells with the ability to divide and develop into many other kinds of cells. The root for stem cell transplantation is that blood cells (red cells, white cells and platelets) and immune cells (lymphocytes) arise from the stem cells, which are present in marrow, peripheral blood and cord blood. Intense chemotherapy or radiation therapy kills the patient's stem cells. This stops the stem cells from producing sufficient blood and immune cells.

Intestinal transplant is a relatively new surgery for people whose intestines are failing. In some cases of severe Crohn's disease or other illnesses, most of the small intestine may be removed. Some people have so much of their small intestine removed that their bodies no longer can absorb nutrients (short bowel syndrome). Intestinal transplants carry a high risk of death during surgery and of complications, including rejection of the new organs. Intestinal failure may also be caused due to functional disorders such as Crohn's disease, a digestive disorder, or chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction syndrome. The conditions causing intestinal failure are age-dependent. Track 5: Islet and Pancreas Transplantation

Islet transplantation is the transplantation of isolated islets from a donor pancreas and into another person. In auto grafts transplant the tissue from same person and in allografts transplant an organ or tissue from genetically non identical persons of the same species. Maintain diet and nutrition after pancreas transplantation, to keep pancreas healthy and after post islet and pancreas transplantation according to the immunological risk follow the immunosuppressive medications.

A total of 29000 whole pancreas transplantations and 1500 islet transplantations have been performed worldwide until today. Patient survival for whole pancreas recipients is 85% five years after transplantation, whereas very few islet studies focus on patient survival. Graft survival for whole pancreas recipients is 90%, 70% and 45%, at one, five and ten years after transplantation respectively. On the other hand, only 44% of islet recipients are still insulin free, one year after engraftment.  The cumulative cost of whole organ transplantation is about 40,000. On the other hand, the cumulative cost of a pancreatic islet transplant is estimated to be higher than 120,000.

Track 6: Transplantation Immunology and Immunogenetics

End stage failure of organs the immune system is lacking ability to distinguish the existence of beneficial and harmful foreign pathogens. Immune system has developed effective mechanisms to fight foreign agents so these mechanisms are involved in transplant rejection. Graft-versus-host diseases are common problems in allogeneic tissue transplantation. Rejection is an adaptive immune response which comes through cellular immunity and also by humoral immunity though the action is joined by components of innate immune response i.e soluble immune proteins & phagocytes and. Different types of transplanted tissues tend to favour diverse balances of rejection mechanisms.

Today, most recipients of transplants are maintained on immunosuppressive drugs. The side-effects of such antirejection drugs, which can themselves be life threatening, include increased risk of infection, cancer, diabetes, and other conditions. In time, however, many patients develop a tolerance to the implanted organs, and some can eventually be weaned off the drugs.

Track 8: Bone Marrow Transplantation

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is the transplantation of multipotent hematopoietic stem cells, usually obtained from bone marrow, peripheral blood. In hematopoietic stem cell transplantation two types of grafts are there autologous and allogeneic. In leukaemia and cancer diseases stem cell transplantation can be used to restore with healthy bone marrow and patients who have blood disorders like lymphoma and other genetic blood diseases. Track 9: Lung Transplantation

There are selective criteria for potential lung donors due to the needs of the potential recipients, after lung transplantation several pulmonary infections like bacterial, viral and fungal infections will takes place. The first human lung transplant procedure was performed in 1963, and the recipient survived 18 days, ultimately succumbing to renal failure and malnutrition. Despite the outcome, this demonstrated that lung transplantation was technically feasible and that rejection could be averted with the available immunosuppressive agents, at least for a short time. More than 1,400 lung transplants occurred in the United States in 2007, the last full year for which statistics are available. Another 2,000 Americans remain on lung waiting lists, while 90 more are waiting for both a heart and lung.

Track 10: Heart Transplantation

Pediatric heart transplantation is important treatment choice in the end stage of heart disease in children. In heart transplantation some post-operative complications are there, those are infections, organ rejection as well as side effects due to immunosuppressive medications. Antibody mediated effects are major complications after heart transplantation, constitute a particular risks in allografts failure.

Analysis included 8029 heart transplant recipients aged ≥18 years and transplanted between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2006 with follow-up available through February 3, 2009. The primary outcome was observed 1-year post transplant graft survival. Multivariable logistic regression was used to calculate expected 1-year survival for recipients. One-year survival after heart transplantation exceeds 80%, with 10-year survival approaching 60% and 20-year survival at about 20%. Survival after re-transplantation is about 10% lower. Heart failure consumes about 2.5% of the heath care budget, and a large number of patients admitted to hospitals for other reasons have heart failure.

Track 11: Liver Transplantation

In orthotopic approach replacing the recipient liver with the donor liver and in heterotopic liver transplantation, the recipient's liver is left in place. Indications for Liver Transplantation are Chronic Hepatitis, Cirrhosis.  ABO blood type, height, weight, and chest circumference are obtained for recipient matching. Partial and split liver grafts are used for pediatric transplantation. Many ethical issues are associated with liver transplantation.

Every year, more than 1,500 people die waiting for a donated liver to become available. Currently, about 17,000 adults and children have been medically approved for liver transplants and are waiting for donated livers to become available. The waiting list grows every year. The number of liver transplants performed in the US more than doubled from 1,713 to 4,487; the number of centres increased from 59 to 116. The number of living donor, segmental, and multiple organ transplants also increased over time. The rate of increase in the number of centres has slowed over the last few years.

Track 12: Blood Transfusion

A blood transfusion is a harmless, common procedure in which blood is given to you through an intravenous (IV) line in one of your blood vessels. Blood transfusions are done to replace blood lost during surgery or due to a serious damage. A transfusion also may be done if your body can't make blood well because of an illness. During a blood transfusion, a small needle is used to insert an IV line into one of your blood vessels. Through this line, you receive healthy blood. The process commonly takes 1 to 4 hours, depending on how much blood you need.

The global market for blood products was valued at $ 23.5 billion in 2012.
