Organ Preservation and Transport

Normothermic Machine Perfusion (NMP) is an advanced organ preservation technology that maintains donor organs at normal body temperature using oxygenated blood or a specialized perfusion solution before transplantation. Current research focuses on extending organ preservation time, assessing organ viability in real time, reducing ischemia–reperfusion injury, enabling therapeutic interventions, and expanding the use of marginal donor organs. NMP is transforming liver, kidney, heart, and lung transplantation by improving graft function, increasing transplant success rates, and reducing waiting-list mortality.
